1. Coronavirus
Coronaviruses occur in humans but also in numerous mammals and birds. In humans they cause gastro-intestinal diseases and flu-like illnesses up to pneumonia. Coronaviruses are enveloped lipid-containing viruses.
Coronaviruses include the SARS virus, which caused epidemics in 2003, and MERS-CoV, which led to 38 deaths in the Middle East in 2012/13.
2. Novel Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19)
In China, especially in Wuhan, a large number of cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed since December 2019.
The novel coronavirus is transmissible from person to person. It can be assumed that transmission - as with other coronaviruses - occurs primarily via secretions of the respiratory tract.
Many properties of the novel coronavirus Covid-19 are currently not yet known, for example the period of highest infectivity (infectivity), the exact period of time until after infection symptoms are recognizable in an infected person (incubation period), the severity of the disease or the period of time over which viruses are excreted or are still infectious. The most frequently mentioned symptoms are similar to influenza, coughing up to pneumonia.
After initially only cases from Wuhan were known, cases of infection have now become known in many other countries.

3. Efficacy of disinfectants against Coronaviruses
Coronaviruses are enveloped viruses. They can usually be inactivated by disinfectants with activity against enveloped viruses.
