For the production of cleaning agents and disinfectants, substances are also used that may be hazardous to water or fall into the category of so-called CMR substances (CMR = carcinogenic (C, for cancer), mutagenic (M) or toxic to reproduction (R)) due to their desired effectiveness. In order to minimise this conflict of objectives, i.e. effectiveness versus environmental compatibility, in the interests of sustainability, Dr. Weigert has committed to specific targets as part of its DNK reporting.
For example, the proportion of products with a water hazard class lower than 2 (WGK 1: slightly hazardous to water; WGK 2: significantly hazardous to water; WGK 3: highly hazardous to water) will be increased. While this value was 74 % in 2022, it will rise to 80 % by 2028. The existing formulations will be revised, always with the proviso that the cleaning and disinfection efficacy is fully maintained.
There will also be a significant reduction in CMR substances. By 2028, 50% of the raw materials used to formulate the products in 2022 and labelled as CMR substances will be replaced. User safety and environmental compatibility will therefore also be significantly increased here.
By publishing these qualitative, quantitative and time-defined sustainability targets, we are increasing the transparency and commitment of our actions: good for the environment, good for users!
